Srey Bandaul (born in 1973-2021, in Battambang Province, Cambodia) passed away in Battambang. From 1987 to 1991, he studied art with a French artist, Veronique Decrop, at En Art School, established at the Site two Camp on the Thai border (Phare). The school then moved to Battambang in 1994, where he taught drawing and painting there from 1995 to 2021. As an artist, Bandaul began working in the fields of drawing, sculpture, collage, painting, installation, and performance. Based on his memories and Cambodian history, he negotiated and established a new relationship with his own country. He was one of the founders and a professor at Phare Ponleu Selpak (PPSA), a community-based school for visual arts and performing arts that provide education and social support in Battambang.

As an artist, Bandaul started exhibiting his works in 1998 at Reyum Gallery base in Phnom Penh, Cambodia. Between 2000 and 2021, he held exhibitions in several locations in Cambodia and published two books: Looking At Angkor and The Land of the Elephants. He also participated in international exhibitions, including Norway, the Philippines, Thailand, Australia, Singapore, New York, London, Istanbul, and Myanmar.

From 1994 to 2021, Bandaul worked at PPSA as an art school manager, art teacher and most recently became PPSA’s head of the Community Outreach and Engagement Department. He worked to promote art in the community and deliver art events in Battambang City, including S’art Festival, and Chumnor Arts. He also initiated and worked with the team on the first story of the Siem Reap Giant Puppet Festival, and was involved in the management team of the TiniTinu Festival and the PPSA Campus Open Day for the PPSA students graduation. From 2000 to 2012, he taught visual arts, and many aspiring Cambodian artists graduated from PPSA. Bandaul knew art and culture, especially the history of Battambang. Between 2015 and 2021, he carried out missions for students, staff, and explored the culture of Battambang.
